The year 2020 was truly just a piece of shit. Like truly, what the fuck was that?
I’ll be honest, January never really feels like a fresh start to me, especially this year. I don’t understand how we’re supposed to start fresh in the middle of winter, the season of death.
Regardless, I do this thing, where I write down all of the things that made me happy throughout the year, and then on December 31st I read all of them… and probably cry.
So I thought I would share them with you!!!
~Practicing gratitude~ really is that bitch, and helps me not sink into a deep hole of nothing. It’s super easy to think of all the bad that happened in 2020, I could do it with one of my brain cells, but the good takes a little more of a college try. But it’s not too late!!! Scrape through your Instagram stories if you have to, I’m sure at least one thing made you smile last year.
- Getting a Berkey water filter (truly the highlight of my 2020)
- Good food (my parents and I don’t really have many traditions, but one we do have is going out to brunch once a month. The pandemic changed that a little, but shoutout curbside pickup. Some of my fave vegan places in NJ are Heartbeet Kitchen, Cookman Creamery, Luna Verde Vegan, Seed to Sprout, and Papa Ganache.)
- Facials (she doesn’t have facial money, but she discovered she loves facials)
- Becoming a professional baker (I was one of THOSE people at the beginning of quarantine. I literally baked something new every single week. ALSO my microwave dessert game is next level.)
- New room (I redid my entire room this past summer and it’s still in progress, but I’m obsessed)
- Sunny days (I just love sunshine. The most leo thing about me is probably that if there’s sunlight beaming through a window, I will stand where it hits.)
- Fuck Trump (clearly we’re happy about this absolute turd not winning the election)
- Found my old nail artist (she left the studio I used to go to and I didn’t know where she went, but we have reunited, all is calm, all is bright)
- Pool days (only went to the beach twice, because all the people made me panic, but weekly pool days helped filled the void a bit)
- Illusion museum (this happened pre-pandemic, but my parents and I went to this museum early in the year, and I had so much fun watching them be amazed at things)
- Working out (this is so fitness instructor of me, but I literally started working out MORE during this pandemic, and I’ve been loving discovering new ways my body likes to move)
- Hike (I hike at Mt. Tammany, which is one of my faves, and I haven’t been in over a year. Can you believe I didn’t pass out with a mask on, wow shocker.)
- Sky Zone (Also pre-pandemic, but my best friends and I went to Sky Zone and we had so much fun being complete children)
- Dudes listening to bad blood in their car (I was walking down the street once and these total bros were in their Volkswagen Beetle, roof down, TayTay on blast. I loved it.)
- Beach drive with Britney (My best friend and I drove down to the beach on a rainy afternoon and it was soooo needed. Screaming to Hozier on the way home was therapy.)
- Rice cakes (I love these bitches)
- Drinking tea at 11pm in the kitchen with mama (I randomly felt immense nausea and couldn’t sleep, so I panicked and woke my mom up, as one does. She made me ginger tea and we just talked until I felt better. We don’t usually see eye to eye, so these moments always stick with me.)
- Google saying she hoped everything was okay ( I said ‘hey Google’ and then said ‘oh my god’ and forgot I was talking to her and she said that. I laughed really hard.)
- Meeting Kimmie (Although my social muscles have probably atrophied, I still managed to make a new friend!!!)
So there are my 2020 mems. I’m sure there’s more, but sometimes I forget to write things down because I’m living in the moment or whatever.
Also self-plug, I started a styling service, check it out and spread the word, I’m tired of being poor. LYLAS.
