I’ll be honest, I’m not a, let me follow you on Instagram just because we went to high school together and I feel bad unfollowing you kind of person. I only follow content I want to consume.
Whether it be an article on the latest state of political affairs, or the Instagram account of a chic fashion stylist, I want to consume things that add some kind of value to my life.
Whether following multiple dog Instagram accounts can be classified as such is up for debate, but I would argue for yes.
Now, I know we can’t always ignore everything we don’t want to see. For example, if I see one more person making PANCAKE cereal and acting like it doesn’t taste like PANCAKES, I’m throwing hands. So instead, I thought I’d provide you with some content, amongst other things, that I have consumed in the last month or so.
Since all we have is time, I hope the things that have been taking up some of mine, are worth taking up some of yours.
1. Haley Nahman’s Newsletter, which is where I got the idea for this post. I always loved her work at Man Repeller, and her newsletter is the virtual hug I didn’t know I needed every week, highly recommend.
2. Watermelon (Sugar). I consider myself to be a watermelon connoisseur. A watermelon whisper. Queen of picking the perfect watermelon, if you will. Knowing that watermelon is typically garbage fire when it is out of season comes with the territory, BUT, I caved. Although not summer yet, I purchased my first watermelon of the season, and she was perfect. I truly don’t know what was more erotic, the satisfaction of taking that first, ripe, sweet, juicy bite, or watching Harry Styles’ music video for Watermelon Sugar. Although who am I kidding, one definitely influenced the other.
3. Chase Stokes for JÓN Magazine. These photos by Leigh Kelly are *chef’s kiss*. They make me want to pick up my camera immediately and beg my friends to let me turn them into models from afar. I think there’s something to be said for someone who makes portraits look like something you’ve never seen before, especially when done via social distancing. Also Chase has much nicer hair than I do, and like, I’m not jealous, it’s cool.
4. If you haven’t yet consumed this GQ profile on Robert Pattinson, I need you to rearrange the priorities in your life and get to it. If you’ve ever seen anything Robert Pattinson related, it’s just as chaotic as you’d expect it to be. I love it.
5. This piece by Nancy Jo Sales from 1998 (that I actually discovered via Haley’s newsletter). It’s a profile on Leonardo DiCaprio and it’s unreal. I would love to see a world in which there are more profiles like this one.
6. I am no stranger to podcasts, I might even be starting my own with a friend, who knows? (I do). But this new gem by Ruby Redstone and Lara Johnson-Wheeler has been so refreshing. I love a good fashion conversation, but unfortunately all of my friends truly couldn’t care less about fashion. This really scratches that itch.
7. Although I am a fitness instructor, I will forever be a student. I love taking classes, but alas, that is a relic of the past for now. I decided to do a free trial of Obé Fitness, and while there are tons of fabulous instructors on there I love working out with, Peter Tucci is enough alone to make me want to keep the membership. The first time I did his dance cardio class, I ended up working out four times in one day because I love him so much.
8. Apparently I’m a blush girl now. Specifically a Glossier Cloud Paint girl. I never thought this day would come since I have fucking rosacea, but applying a rosy tint to my cheeks, after I just finished covering it up with concealer, has become a vital part of my makeup routine. I’ve convinced myself it’s more of a, oops spent a little too long in the sun heehee, kind of look, and less of a, the copious amounts of hot sauce you consumed with dinner do not agree with your face kind of look. Anyways, I’ve really been loving the Cloud Paint in the shade Storm. I was always a Beam girl, but I’m evolving.
9. I think we’ve all watched Normal People by now, right? But if you haven’t, you sure as hell should. Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones did the damn thing. However… the book is better, there I said it.
10. Trader Joe’s freeze dried dragonfruit has made it’s way down my esophagus multiple times in the past month. It’s not particularly groundbreaking in flavor, as it just tastes like a slightly sweetened chip, but what it lacks in flavor, it makes up for in texture. NSFW WARNING: I love how it feels in my mouth.
11. Bathing suits as tops are going to be the trend of Summer 2020, mark my words. I was getting annoyed with sports bras, and while my itty bitty titties, don’t really require support, sometimes I would like some during my workouts. Bikini tops are far more comfortable, and get the job done.
12. Lewis Capaldi did a cover of Shallow and the harmonies in it make me emotional.
13. I had not listened to even ONE episode of the Call Her Daddy Podcast prior to all the drama, but I lived for it. The gossip literally made my pulse race with excitement, and now I am a dedicated listener of my single father. I kind of felt icky at how much I was living for the drama, but then I remembered this piece Harling Ross did on Man Repeller, and I felt better about myself.
So that’s what I’ve been consuming as of late. Let me know if you engage with any of it and also share with me what you’ve been consuming. I’m open to all of the things.
